PLOP ART

These little 8 page booklets feature the earliest Plop Art works from the early to mid 1980s. At this time, Joseph B. Raimond worked at the metal arts department office of San Francisco State University, and when there wasn't a lot to do, he would make these little pen and ink drawings on normal 8.5 x 11 inch office paper. The term Plop Art came much later. At this time, these large amount of drawings were not considered especially important, and indeed were seldom considered for any of Joseph's then many projects. Later, while living in Germany, Joseph noticed that they were a rich source of material for use as cassette cover art, and in fact virtually all the early DWM cassettes feature artwork from this period. A few years later, when DWM began releasing 12" vinyl albums, these little booklets were published to be included as free gifts in the album packaging, or given away at art openings. Each was a limited edition of 1000 copies, printed with black ink on white paper, and, interestingly, like all other eMpTy Publications, did not include the MT number printed on the booklet.
